Amulet purses beadwork

This is another antique purse which I bought. It was in relatively good shape, except for the strap and fringe which were "raining" beads. It is loomwork mounted on black silk, and lined with a violet-grey silk, with some kind of a stiffening material inside. The beads are square cut jet and steel.

The original strap was short and loomed with jet and steel, and there wasn't much left of it. It had the typical short fringe of twisted loops worked entirely with the steel beads. About half of that was missing.

I removed what was left of the strap and fringe, and put on a simple black twisted cord which is long enough to wear over your shoulder, and decided to make new fringe out of the beads. I started working entirely with jet and steel, but was running short, so I started over using twisted black bugle beads and black jet AB austrian crystals to add length to the fringe. As you can see, I ran short again, and I don't want to rip these out, as I am afraid I will weaken the whole thing. I think I have enough jet beads, but I am still looking for steel beads. Anyone know where I can find some? This purse is good enough, so that I would be able to use it on very special occasions, hence the desire to refurbish it. The small one on the previous page is also in quite good shape, so I could slip it right inside, and use it once or twice a year when we go to a symphony or something. Living on an island, going to the symphony is an overnight trip, so it is rare and very special to me.
